Scripture:
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:10-11
Devotional:
God supernaturally guided the seekers till they found the Messiah. When they found Jesus, they worshipped and presented their gifts to Him. There are few lessons we can learn from the wise men:
The joy of finding the Lord. When the wise men found where Jesus was living, they were filled with Joy. Their destination was not just a place, but a person––Jesus. When we find Jesus, He fills our heart with indescribable joy. The promise and pleasures that the world has to offer cannot be compared to the joy of knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
You can find unspeakable joy when you decide to surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
• The devotion of true worshipers. Worship is an expression of our reverence and devotion to God. If we really want to worship God, then there must be nothing else that compares to Him. The only response the wise men could give after seeing Jesus was to bow down and worship Him.
When we encounter Jesus, we fall down and worship Him. Worship is our response to who He is, what He has done for us and who He represents in our lives.
• The offering that pleases God. It was customary in the culture of the wise men to present gifts when approaching a superior. The expensive gifts reflected the great honor the Magi bestowed on the Christ child. The gifts befit the role for which the child was born.
Today, as we celebrate Jesus and what He has done in our lives, we must open our treasures before Him. It could be the treasures of our time, devotion, commitment or resources, but our worship must be sacrificial.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I bow in worship at your presence. Accept the treasures I lay at your feet today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
