It’s Day 11, of the MADE FOR MORE podcast! I’m Jacqui, and today we’re talking about being salt and light in the world. God calls you to bring flavour and brightness to the lives of others, reflecting His love in all you do. Let’s explore what that looks like—you were made for more.
Scripture
Let’s start today with a powerful scripture from “Matthew 5:13-16 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Reflection
Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5:13-16 reminds us of our calling to live distinct, impactful lives that reflect His love. By describing us as “salt of the earth;’ Jesus shows how our presence can enhance and preserve what’s good around us. Salt makes things flavourful, which symbolizes our potential to add meaning, hope, and encouragement in a world that can sometimes feel tasteless or disconnected. Are we adding value and kindness to our surroundings? Are we preserving truth and love in our relationships? By living in a way that reflects Christ’s love, we bring light and hope to those around us, fulfilling His purpose for us.
Take a moment to think about how God has designed your life with purpose. How does this truth, that you are salt and light shape the way you see yourself today? For me, I’m declaring that I have the potential to bring meaning, hope, and encouragement to a world that feels disconnected—through the power of the Holy Spirit living inside me. Growing up, I struggled to see my value or believe I had anything to offer because of words spoken to tear me down. But now, I walk confidently in the truth that I am salt and light, all because of God’s unfailing love for me.”
Application
Be consistent in your faith. Salt can lose its saltiness if it becomes diluted. Similarly, our faith can become less impactful if we are inconsistent or passive. Are there areas in your life where you can be more consistent in reflecting Christ? Consider how you can maintain your passion and authenticity in your faith journey. As salt, we are called to preserve God’s truth and goodness in our surroundings. This might look like standing up for what’s right, offering compassion and wisdom, or even bringing encouragement to those around us. How can you add “flavour” to the lives of those you encounter, making a difference in their lives through your words and actions?
Prayer: Let’s pray together.
Lord, thank You for the calling to be salt and light in this world. Help me to understand what it means to live out my faith with purpose and conviction. Guide me to be a preserving presence that brings Your goodness into every place I go. Let my words, actions, and choices reflect You in a way that draws others to Your love and truth. Teach me to shine my light boldly, not for my own glory but for Yours. Give me the courage to live openly as Your follower, showing kindness, grace, and compassion in all that I do. May my life be a testimony of Your love so that others are encouraged to seek You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
