Welcome to Day 18 of the MADE FOR MORE podcast! I’m Jacqui, and today we’re discussing the power of serving with humility. True greatness in God’s Kingdom isn’t about being seen; it’s about serving others with a humble heart. Let’s explore how to walk in humility as we live out our calling.
Scripture
Let’s start today with a powerful scripture from “Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of the others.
Reflection
Philippians 2:3-4 calls us to a life of humility and selflessness, echoing the heart of Christ’s own example. Paul encourages believers to set aside selfish ambition and conceit, instead valuing others above ourselves. This doesn’t mean diminishing our worth; rather, it’s about lifting others up, focusing on their needs, and serving them with love. In a world where self-interest often dominates, this passage reminds us of the beauty and strength of humility. When we look to the interests of others; we mirror the compassion and humility of Jesus. Living this way can transform relationships, foster unity, and bring peace. It’s an invitation to be mindful of those around us, to listen, support, and uplift one another. By doing so, we create a community that reflects God’s love and grace.
Take a moment to reflect on how God has uniquely designed your life with purpose. How does embracing humility and selflessness impact the way you view yourself today? For me: There was a time, especially during the challenges of COVID, when our family faced difficult circumstances. It’s easy to feel the urge to take control and try to fix things on our own, but there was a moment when a door closed, and I realised that surrendering everything to God was the key. I learned that humility begins with trusting God in every situation, no matter how uncertain it may seem. It’s about focusing on the needs of others, serving them with love, and lifting them up, especially when we ourselves are facing difficulties. By putting others first, we find a deeper sense of purpose and peace.
Application: Practicing Humility
Now, let’s talk about how to apply this truth to your life. Humility is at the core of this passage. Reflect on ways to practice humility daily, such as listening without interrupting, acknowledging others’ strengths, and offering help without expecting anything in return. Consider the people in your life who might need encouragement, support, or simply someone who values them. Ask God to help you see others through His eyes, recognising their worth and showing appreciation for them. Think about small ways you can focus on others’ needs above your own, whether that’s by lending a hand, showing compassion, or offering a listening ear. This mindset shift can be powerful, bringing joy and purpose as we seek to serve with genuine love.
Prayer: Let’s pray together.
Lord, thank You for showing me the perfect example of humility. Help me to set aside selfish ambitions and instead, live with a heart that values others. Give me the strength and compassion to put others’ needs before my own. Help me to see others with Your eyes and to treat them with love, kindness, and respect. May my actions reflect Your love and bring unity and peace. Teach me to serve without expecting anything in return, knowing that each act of love reflects Your heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
